'Greystanes loop' - 16/3

Went back to the 18.15km loop I've been doing which I call the Greystanes Loop today lacking a better name for it.

Anyway, 18.15km in 48mins 1 sec = 22.7kmh. It would have been faster but I was attacked by a rottweiller near the end so had to wait a bit. Ok, I wasn't really attacked, more barked at a bit. I'm not so good with big dogs. Probably would have been more like 24kmh without the 'attack'.

Oh well.

Parramatta Park - 15/3/09

Felt pretty good today after taking the kids swimming so I decided to do some sprints around Parramatta Park.

Cycled the 7.4km there in 17mins (average speed 26.1km/h)

Did 6 x 3.15km laps of the park, each a little slower than the last - the first was at 29.7kmh, the last at 28.1kmh.

The ride home took 24 mins (average speed 18.5kmh).

Thanks to the big group that were cheering me each time I came round! You gave me a big lift - enough to convince me to do a 6th lap!

55kms Today

55kms in 2hrs 25 mins @22kmh. Was out on Bryce's (BiL) Giant road bike - very nice!

Had a minor thigh injury from Soccer on Wednesday which ached a bit but it was nothing major.

Was held up a little as was riding with Brett who was on an MTB. Also it was a new route so we kept having to search for the next waypoint and double back etc.

Pretty pleased with the ride though. Felt good. Kept the cadence up all the way through.

Ate a lot afterwards!

5/3/09

18.2kms @ 23.4km/h on the same route as Tuesday. 27C and breezy - great cycling weather.

Got halfway through feeling really good then went up a hill and that was it - I just couldn't get any speed up. Very strange. I don't think I bonked, it didn't feel like it. I just didn't have anything left in the legs.

Perhaps treating football night as a rest day isn't the way ahead.

4th March

Rest day. Played 6-a-side soccer and lost 5-1. Bugger it.

Found out I've been selected for an assessment day to work on the railway. :-)

3rd March

Ok, so I went out today on my first proper run with the cycle computer on and all that stuff.

It's a beautiful day for cycling today - 27C with a really gentle breeze. I'm riding an old rust bucket right now which weighs a ton but is very comfortable so that's a start. Toast with jam for breakfast and an extra strong cup of tea and it's time to set off.

I went up to Prospect Reservoir, down to Fairfield then back to Greystanes (terrible name for a place!) via Guildford and Merrylands.

18.1km @ 23km/h average speed. Top speed 42.4km/h and felt pretty good at the end.

Hey, we all have to start somewhere and this is where I'm starting!

Introduction

Hi and welcome to my blog.

I am an unemployed banker/hedge fund bloke from London*
who has moved to Sydney.

In the absence of anything lucrative or even particularly constructive to do I've decided to keep a diary of my cycle training. I've been cycling for years but have approached it in a pretty unstructured way but I've decided I'd like to do the Gong Ride and would like to try to do the 90km in 3 hours or less.

Frankly that's very optimistic and perhaps even ludicrous as I really am known as a very slow rider (that's not false modesty - I once cycled up Alpe D'Huez on a shopping bike) although one that'll keep going all day. It's good to have a goal though and that's mine.

I don't think this is really meant for public consumption TBH but if you stumbled across it and want to say 'Hi', 'Good Luck' or just call me an arsehole for causing you to lose your job, your investments and your spouse then go right ahead.

*yeah, I know - it's all my fault
